Go4SET project hailed a success
Portsmouth youngsters shone at the city's football club on Friday 5 March as they presented a raft of brilliant water saving ideas at the finale of the Go4SET project.
In front of a host of key local VIPS including the Lord Mayor, teams of 12 to 14 year old students from schools across Portsmouth presented their ideas on how to tackle water conservation in a groundbreaking science project.
This was the first time the ten week environmental project was carried out in Portsmouth and it has certainly made an impact!
The awards ceremony that followed the presentations, which was co-presented by former Master Inventor of IBM, Syd Chapman and Heart FM's morning presenter 'Bunker', saw the City of Portsmouth Boys' School's team scoop the most sought after award for 'Best Project'.
Other awards went to: Portsmouth Grammar School for the best work, Warblington School team for the most innovative project and Horndean Technology College's 'Water Works' team for the pupil’s choice.
Recognition for the best presentation went to Springfield Schools' team and Horndean Technology College's 'E4U' and 'HTE' teams were the highly commended judges' choice.
Go4SET aims to inspire young people in Science, Engineering and Technology by taking part in a live project which tests their skills in communication, problem solving and project management, with ultimately one team being crowned the winner.
SRE Director Steve Jackson said "The event has been a real success - there was a great turn out and all the students involved really excelled themselves".
"This project was a unique chance for children to work with Mentors from local Companies to learn and develop their skills in science, engineering and technology whilst at the same time tackling an increasingly important issue".
